Each year the University of Maryland, Baltimore celebrates the achievements and successes of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and philanthropic supporters and pays tribute to UMB's 200-plus-year history with a series of Founders Week events.

Entrepreneur of the Year Presentation & Reception

James Gammie, MD Dr. James Gammie and his research team invented a device that may enable heart valves to be repaired without opening the chest or stopping the heart. The licensed technology led to the founding in July 2013 of Harpoon Medical, Inc., which already has won $300,000 in competitive grants. Dr. Gammie will deliver a presentation of his work on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 4:30 p.m. in Building Two of the BioPark followed by a reception.

Founders Week Gala

Founders Week Gala This year the Founders Week Gala celebrates our generous supporters and the University's accomplishments and achievements of 2014. The Founders Week Gala takes place on Saturday, Oct. 11, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore. The awards recognizing our Founders Week award winners will be presented at the Gala. Tickets are $150 and can be purchased by contacting events@umaryland.edu or 410-706-8035.

Public Servant of the Year

Karen Kauffman, PhD, CRNP, RN, FAAN Dr. Kauffman has participated in work leading to passage of the National Alzheimer’s Project Act and helped revise the Alzheimer’s Association’s Statement of Ethics. The award recognizing Dr. Kauffman for her significant work fighting Alzheimer's disease will be presented at the Founders Week Gala, Saturday, Oct. 11. […]
